How do you overcome a bad reputation?

Its been 20 years since I graduated from High School, but back in High School and up until I was in my early 20s, I had a bad reputation where I ran around with everyone at my high school and was really a tramp, and for the last 15-20 years I have changed my life and have become a decent person that is trying to live a Christian life, and my question is what else can you do to overcome a bad reputation and show people you aren’t the same person you were back in 1992? No matter what I do, people at church and people who I see that knew me back then will whisper and make statements saying really hurtful things. Someone please give me some advice?
Hello Sue,
Thank you for your post, I am sorry that you are still experiencing scrutiny over your past. First off, congratulations for breaking old habits and moving your life forward in a positive direction. It’s never easy to make a major life change but sometimes necessary for your personal well-being. As for people who continue to gossip-let it be-that’s their choice to spend their time talking about everyone else and not living their life. If people are true and good they will get to know you for the person that you are now and that you have become. No one is better or above anyone else, we all have our baggage and/or demons that we either carry or let go. Continue to live you life in a positive manner and let those that are stuck in the past miss out on the bright and beautiful future.
